"We Are the Revolution"
Fun, Kristin 1:53 PM
So this is something a bit different than your normal post. As much as I love juicy celeb gossip, I love writing inspiration pieces that can inflict change, or some kind of brain stimulation. As a college student myself, I think it's important to educate our youth about politics, because the policies that are made today can impact the rest of your LIFE! (this is due in partial why I'm a political science major as well as a journalism major) This is something I personally wrote in ode to our past Memorial Day (for our foreign readers, this isn't just an American piece, but it can apply to you as well.) GO out there & make a difference! It's not about if it's cool or not, it's about your future; the actions we make today plays in the roles of our future children and the next generation.
In Ode to Memorial Day
The smell of barbecue fills the air. White pale faces flock to the beaches to roast, and those already sun kissed with their Californian native tan hide away in the shades. Children laughing, playing, giggling, running across the brown pastel sands. Parents screaming, lecturing their children, or as we call it "parenting." But as we experience this hectic and chaotic day of parking at the beach, should we just be resting, while day by day at least one American soldier's life is sacrificed in honor of us to celebrate this odd day?
Shouldn't we be furious that we're still in this war on "terror." Shouldn't we be marching, protesting and following in the footsteps of our ancestors, who fought to end their war? How can we the people allow another mistake? Have we lost who we are, or have we just given up? Our Iraq War has became their Vietnam War, the difference is, nothing is happening, no one is standing up anymore.
We've allowed big corporations to take charge, they are our big brothers in this capitalistic world. The people may feel weak, but it's our duty to stand up for ourselves, for our government. We are the power source, we are the roots to our government, yet we fail to understand the power we are capable of.
We go out and seek other countries in need, but realistically we are the one's in need. The people have died in some sort, no one speaks anymore. The streets are dead, no protests, no sound, just the car's passing by fueled with BP toxicity. We've been poisoned, we've been betrayed, and now is the time for a revolution.
The time is now for a change. We were inspired by the words of our president, but we haven't seen anything, the power lays with you, YOU are the change. Riot the streets, annoy the crap out of politicians, demand your country back in your hands.
Iraq is our Vietnam, and it's been nearly a decade of fighting. How did we get to here, how did we end up in a mess?? Why are we still there??
We are the revolution, we are the change.
