Charlsie takes YOU to college: Nervous??!

Hi, I'm going to be starting college in about a week and a half, and I'm really nervous about the first few days of orientation. Do you have any advice? -- Shy Girl

Hi Shy Girl,

Everyone is nervous their first week of college -- it's completely natural. Don't worry, all of your future classmates are probably feeling the same as you right about now.

The best advice is to be open to everything. Talk to everyone. Don't sit in a corner by yourself. Mingle, make small talk, and introduce yourself to as many people as possible. This may feel weird, but chances are -- everyone else will be doing it. The one thing you don't want to do is sit alone because you're too nervous you will say something stupid. Just speak up and you will meet tons of people!

Also, attend as many orientation meetings as possible. They may be boring after the first day, but it will help you meet everyone in your class and you will be able to run into the same people in these sessions -- which will ultimatley result in you becoming more and more comfortable with them.

People are a lot more laid back and less judgmental than they are in high school, so embrace college with open arms and you will have friends in no time. No need to worry!

Good luck,
Charlsie
